What’s Trending for Spring 2016

Posted on 14 March 2016

Well fashion month has come to an end we’ve got a glimpse of what we’ll be coveting and wearing in Fall/Winter 2016. Paris showed us silk scarves, trench coats and statement earrings. New York brought us off the shoulder tops, statement oversized sleeves and a touch of velvet. Trends were bold in Milan, ranging from head to toe red, 80’s punk and clashing prints. While London presented lots of black with peek-a-boo cut outs and delicate floral trends. But as the sun starts to make an appearance and we are counting down the days to sandal season it’s time to recap the key ‘wearable’ trends for Spring 2016…

Cleo Dress from HushThe Cold Shoulder – It’s all about shoulders for SS16. You’ll find off the shoulder tops and dresses and plenty of cut outs all over the high street. I’m loving this off the shoulder Cleo dress from Hush.

Panelled Voile Shirt from WhistlesThe Statement White Shirt – White shirts truly are a wardrobe style and they are never really out of fashion. But this seasons white shirt has a little edge! This season it’s ruffles, statement sleeves and a hint of Victoriana. And recently seen my Insta feed white shirts worn back to front! I’m not really a ruffles girl but I did just pick up this voile panelled shirt from Whistles and I know it’s going to be the shirt I wear all season!

Lingerie by Day – The 90’s slip dress is back. Everyone from Alexander Wang to Dolce and Gabanna sent slinky lingerie inspired looks down the runway but this look is far from new. I think it’s slightly harder to pull off if you were lucky enough to pull it off in the 90’s but it’s not impossible! Think a little bit of lace in a sheer top finished off with a leather jacket for added edge (and coverage)! But if you're lucky enough to be able to pull it off this grey dress from Free People is so cute!

Grown up Pleats – Pleated skirts can be another tricky one to pull off. But styled right they are super comfy and great for warmer days. Think midi skirts with a t-shirt and trainers. The key is to dress down the pleats. Topshop has lots to choose from this season and I can picture this cream version with a black t-shirt and denim jacket.

Metallics –Always a favourite, my inner magpie loves a bit of sparkle! The trend for metallics has been around for several seasons and it’s still going strong! As long as you keep the rest of your look simple this trend is an easy one to get right. I love the blush colour of this top from Reiss; I can myself wearing this with skinny white jeans when the weather warms up a bit!

Stripes – I’ll admit I am a little bit afraid of pattern and the only one you’ll find in my wardrobe is stripes so this trend makes me happy! The Breton striped top has been everywhere again this year and I’m not complaining! This cute red and white version from Chinti and Parker is a new addition to my wishlist!

Marc Jacobs wrap skirt Wrap Skirts – The only skirt to be seen in this SS16 apparently; this trend is gaining momentum quickly. I’ll admit I haven’t found any on the high street that have inspired me to try them on yet but if I had to choose today it would be this cute version from Marc Jacobs!

Let me know in the comments if I’ve missed any of the key trends where you are!
