The capsule wardrobe; its not all about the clothes…
Posted on 26 May 2016
The concept of building that elusive capsule wardrobe where everything works together, makes packing for trips a breeze and ensures you never have those ‘I have nothing to wear’ moments is the dream! I truly aspire to have that kind of wardrobe and some days I think I really am making progress! But while I search for the perfect black heels that I can really run for a bus in, and that absolutely perfect white shirt... I’ve realised it’s not all about the clothes. In fact, accessories are equally as important as handbags, jewellery and shoes. The right accessories really can take you from desk to dinner and from beach to beach bar. So I’ve been thinking about my perfect capsule jewellery collection... And these are my go-to pieces, the ones that end up in my suitcase time and time again and what I think are the perfect pieces that make the ultimate capsule collection….
The everyday earring
I’m probably pretty boring with my everyday earring choice considering I run a jewellery business! But most days I tend to reach for my Black Druzy studs from a.v.max. If you’ve followed my blogs you’ll know I have a real weakness for all things Druzy!
The statement shoulder duster
In summer there’s nothing better than a ponytail and a statement earring and my absolute faves are the Blue Chalcedony earrings from Native Gem. Perfect with a simple T-Shirt for day and easily glam for night.
I love the look of layering; ‘the I just threw this together and it so works’ look! Our SVP Bonbon rings are made for stacking but I’m a more minimalist ring stacker so I usually stack the SVP Sherbet Pips or the cute Arc rings from Leah Alexandra.
Necklaces for layering
This is another one of those just threw it on looks that takes a little effort and know how. The key is to keep the pieces small and kind of minimalist, our Little Star necklace from Dutch brand Anna + Nina is perfect for this, understated and very cool! Pair with our tiny bar necklace or the Moonstone bar necklace. Or you can cheat and try one of the a.v.max already perfectly layered necklaces!
Stacks of arm candy
My favourite of all layering trends, it takes me back to the stacks of friendship bracelets I wore in the 80’s! For work style I layer simple bangles with my watch (saving the other hand for the daytime cocktail ring). I love the tassel cuff and grey pearl cuff from Anna + Nina but the Lucky bangle from a.v.max is another favourite. However, if we are talking holidays and the beach it’s all about Jiya. Neon, gold and tassels, that works for me!
The perfect cocktail ring
I love a cocktail ring and I will admit they are often daytime bling for me too! This category is a tough one for me as I love my SVP Bonbon rings (I have Emerald and Opal and blue chalcedony is next of my list) but I also love the rings we carry from Native Gem, the gunmetal crystals just work for me, they look so expensive! But if I have to choose and I’m thinking all things summer today; I’d probably have to go with the large Blue Chalcedony Bonbon from SVP. Holidays are coming and this ring is making its way into my suitcase!
The go with everything on trend watch
I am in LOVE with my new Larson and Jennings watch! It’s the perfect balance between simple and statement yet in a really understated way (if that’s makes any sense)! There is a reason this watch is on the arm of most fashion bloggers, this is a must have!
The never out of fashion gold hoop
This is well deserving in the capsule jewellery list. The gold hoop really is that ultimate go with anything, go anywhere earring. The size may change, the metals may go in and out of style but the humble hoop remains! Our hammered gold pair from a.v.max are perfection!
